Vulcanized fibre is a laminated plastic composed of only cellulose. Vulcanized fibre is a tough, resilient, hornlike material that is lighter than aluminium, tougher than leather, and stiffer than most thermoplastics. Vulcanized fiber (fish paper) tubing is produced from a cotton rag base paper. This is a dense material of partially regenerated cellulose in which the fibre structure is retained. Tubing has a red ,black,grey, blue-grey color.

Vulcanized fiber has a tensile strength 80 times that of kraft. Its high strength is very useful for mechanical applications such as winding heavy wire or wire under tension. It has good arc quenching ability as well as excellent abrasion resistance. It is a tough, stiff material.
Vulcanized fibre can be machined in much the same way as other plastics. It can easily be formed, bent, sawed, sheared, punched, milled, turned, and drilled. Applications should be limited to temperatures below 425 degrees F.
